Top Sellers FAQs

What is faba bean protein?

Faba beans are a legume that's been cultivated for thousands of years, but they've only recently made their way into the supplement world. What makes them special is that they pack an incredibly high protein content (around 88% in isolate form), they have a complete amino acid profile, and they blend into a genuinely smooth powder without the gritty, chalky texture that makes a lot of plant proteins hard to drink. We source faba beans from regional Victoria, so you're getting a locally grown, sustainably farmed ingredient rather than something that's been shipped halfway around the world.

How is this different from pea or rice protein?

Most plant-based protein powders are built on pea or rice protein, and while those are fine, they come with some baggage, like grittiness, a distinct "earthy" aftertaste, and often a lower protein-per-gram yield. Faba bean isolate sits at around 84–88g of protein per 100g, which edges out most pea isolates. It also tends to be lower in fat and carbohydrates than pea protein. The texture difference is probably the biggest thing you'll notice day-to-day: faba bean just mixes smoother, which makes a real difference when you're throwing a scoop in a shaker at 6am.

Which flavours are available in the top sellers' range?

Our current top sellers include Premium Vanilla, Premium Chocolate, Matcha, Coconut, and an Unflavoured version. Each flavoured option delivers 24.3g of protein per 30g serve at around 114 calories, while the Unflavoured version is the leanest of the bunch at 25.3g of protein and only 107 calories per serve.

What's the deal with the Matcha flavour? Is it basically just a protein powder, or is there more to it?

The Matcha is a bit of a two-for-one. Each serving contains 73mg of naturally occurring caffeine from real matcha green tea, which is roughly on par with a standard espresso. But here's the difference from just having a coffee alongside your protein shake: matcha also contains L-theanine, an amino acid that smooths out the caffeine hit and gives you a more focused, sustained energy without the jitteriness. It's a popular choice for people who want a bit of a lift first thing in the morning without reaching for multiple drinks.

Is this suitable for people with allergies?

Yes, across the board. The entire Pure Plant Protein range is gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and made without GMO ingredients. Importantly, the products are made in a HACCP-certified facility in the Yarra Valley that's dedicated to gluten-free and dairy-free production, so there's no risk of cross-contamination from a shared production line. If you have coeliac disease, lactose intolerance, or a soy allergy and have struggled to find a protein powder that works for you, this range is the one.

I've had issues with bloating from protein powders before. Will this be different?

It very well might be. A lot of protein powders, plant-based ones especially, use thickeners like xanthan gum or guar gum to improve texture, and these can cause real digestive grief for sensitive people. We deliberately leave those out, instead relying on the natural emulsifying properties of the faba bean itself. The isolation process also removes the FODMAPs (fermentable carbohydrates) present in whole beans, which are the compounds typically responsible for the gas and bloating that whole legumes can cause. The result is a powder that's genuinely gentler on the gut than most competitors.

Can I use it in cooking and baking, or is it just a shaker thing?

Definitely not just a shaker thing. The protein is heat-stable up to around 180°C, so it holds up well in baking without losing its nutritional value. The Unflavoured variant in particular is designed with cooking in mind. You can stir it into soups, blend it into dips, or fold it into pancake and muffin batter without it dominating the flavour. The Vanilla flavour also works beautifully in smoothies alongside fruit, greens, and nut butters if you want something more in the blender category.

How much protein am I actually getting, and is it enough to build muscle?

Each standard 30g serve delivers between 24.3g and 25.3g of protein depending on the flavour. For muscle building, the key factor isn't just total protein; it's leucine content, since leucine is the amino acid that triggers muscle protein synthesis. Faba bean isolate contains around 2.1–2.5g of leucine per serve, which is comparable to whey isolate and comfortably clears the threshold needed to stimulate an anabolic response. So yes, it's genuinely effective for muscle building and recovery, not just a "health halo" protein for people who don't really train.

What's the Subscribe & Save deal, and is it worth it?

If you're using protein powder regularly (which, if you're hitting your daily targets, you probably are), the subscription model makes a lot of sense. Discounts range from 10% for a quarterly delivery up to 14% for fortnightly. There's no lock-in period, so you can pause, skip, or cancel at any time through the customer portal. You can also mix and match flavours through the Build a Bundle feature, which stacks nicely on top of your subscription discount.

What's the shipping situation?

Free shipping kicks in on orders over $70, which most people hit pretty easily. Orders are dispatched same-day in most cases from the Melbourne hub, with standard Australia Post transit times of 2–5 business days domestically. International shipping is currently available to New Zealand and Singapore.

What if I try it and don't like it?

There's a 100% satisfaction guarantee with a 30-day hassle-free refund for new customers. If it's not working for you, reach out to hello@ppprotein.com.au and we'll sort it out.
