| Our Stories | What We Learned From Allied Health Professionals at Doctors for Nutrition

On November 9th, we partnered with Doctors for Nutrition at their Adelaide event. For context, Doctors for Nutrition is an organisation training healthcare professionals on plant-based nutrition—something most doctors get less than 20 hours of education on during their entire degree.

The event brought together doctors, nurses, naturopaths, physiotherapists, and other allied health professionals. We set up as a partner, offered samples, and had some really useful conversations about what health professionals are actually looking for when they recommend protein to their patients.

What Health Professionals Are Actually Looking For in Protein Powder

What Health Professionals Are Actually Looking For

The conversations confirmed a few things we already suspected:

Coeliac patients struggle to find safe protein. Not "may contain traces" gluten-free—actually gluten-free. The kind where cross-contamination isn't an issue.

Lactose-intolerant patients avoid protein shakes entirely. Most whey-based options sit heavy or trigger digestive issues, so they just skip it.

Ingredient lists are a problem. When your naturopath patients are trying to eat clean, recommending a protein powder with gums, fillers, and 20+ ingredients doesn't align with their goals.

The pattern was clear: health professionals want something they can confidently recommend without having to add a list of caveats.

Common Questions We Got

We brought chocolate, vanilla, salted caramel, and a new flavour we're testing. Here's what people asked:

Is it actually gluten-free, or just 'may contain traces'?
Actually gluten-free. When we say it, we mean it.

What about gums and thickeners?
None. 3-5 ingredients max depending on the flavour: faba bean protein isolate, natural flavours, stevia.

Is it complete protein?
Yes. All nine essential amino acids, 88% protein content. Grown in Victoria, blended in the Yarra Valley.

Does it mix smoothly, or is it gritty like pea protein?
We handed them a shaker. They tried it. Most came back for seconds.

What We Noticed

A lot of health professionals weren't just asking for their patients—they were asking for themselves. Doctors who train for marathons, nurses working 12-hour shifts, physios who need sustained energy throughout the day.

The checklist was basically the same:

  • High protein content (24.3g per serve, 88% by weight)
  • Complete amino acid profile
  • Smooth texture (not gritty like most plant proteins)
  • Clean ingredients (no gums, fillers, or artificial additives)
  • Allergen-friendly (gluten, dairy, soy, nut-free)
  • Australian-made with a transparent supply chain
  • Actually sustainable (nitrogen-fixing crop, low water usage)

Faba bean protein ticks those boxes, which is why we use it.

New Flavour in Testing

We also brought a new flavour we've been working on. We've been testing it for a few months, and the event seemed like a good opportunity to get feedback from people who actually know what they're talking about.

Response was good—people came back for seconds, asked when they could buy it. One physio said it "tastes like a treat, not a supplement," which is kind of the goal.

We're not ready to officially launch it yet, but if you've been following along, keep an eye out. It's got the same smooth texture and clean ingredients as our other flavours.

Why We Partner With Organisations Like This

Doctors for Nutrition is doing work that matters—training medical professionals on nutrition (something most get less than 20 hours of education on), and advocating for plant-based approaches to managing chronic disease.

We're not here to sell protein powder to everyone. We're here to make a product that works for people who need it—whether that's someone with coeliac disease, someone managing gut issues, or someone who just wants clean ingredients without the runaround.

Events like this help us stay connected to the people who actually use our product, and understand what's missing in the market.

Next Steps

If you're a health professional interested in trying PPP or recommending it to your patients, reach out. We're happy to send samples or answer questions about ingredients, sourcing, or anything else.

And if you attended the event—thanks for the feedback. It helps us understand what's actually needed, rather than what we think is needed.

We'll be back next year.
